Few products from Microsoft have stirred as much
excitement as SharePoint Portal Server 2001 (SPS). This powerful platform for
workgroup and enterprise portals changes the way people use Office and is
tightly integrated with Microsoft’s new release of Office XP. This course
explains what SharePoint Portal server is and how it works. It elaborates on the
underlying technologies and explores the benefits to end-users. Ultimately
students will be prepared to begin planning an SPS implementation with an
understanding of many topics including:

- SharePoint Portal Servers overall purpose and position in the
.NET Server family
- Integration with Office XP
- Document management
- Web Portal Framework
- Search
- Using SPS programmatically
Course Prerequisites: Background knowledge in application
development is significant advantage. However, students with little or
no programming knowledge will still benefit greatly by gaining an
understanding of how collaborative solutions are built on the SPS
platform.
Your instructor, John R. Durant (MCSE, MCSD, MCT, MCDBA) is
a senior systems architect and developer for Plural and specializes in
collaborative and knowledge management solutions using Microsoft
products. In addition to designing solutions for clients like Ralph
Lauren Media, General Mills Corporation, and Publicis, Mr. Durant has
also done extensive training and curriculum development nationally in
both system engineering and development with Microsoft products. Mr.
Durant earned a B.A. and M.A. at Brigham Young University, an M.A. at
the University of Minnesota and is completing his Ph.D. at the same
institution. He has forthcoming publications in Exchange & Outlook
magazine and in a book through Microsoft Press. |
