Specific Acceptable Use Policies |
 |
- Illegal Access - Any attempt to gain unauthorized access
to Prairie 21 equipment or equipment belonging to another party
is expressly forbidden. This also includes other precursor actions
including but not limited to port scans, malformed requests, and
other forms of information gathering for the purposes of gaining
unauthorized access.
- Unauthorized use of other people's accounts or servers
- Prairie 21 will strongly react to any use or attempted use of
an Internet account or computer without the owner's authorization.
Such attempts include "internet scamming" (tricking other people
into releasing their passwords), password robbery, security hole
scanning etc. Any unauthorized use of accounts or computers by
a Prairie 21 customer, whether or not the attacked account or
computer belongs to Prairie 21, will result in action against
the attacker. Possible actions include warnings, account suspension
or cancellation, and civil or criminal legal action, depending
on the seriousness of the attack.
- Copyright Laws - Engaging in any activity that infringes
or misappropriates the intellectual property rights of others,
including copyrights, trademarks, service marks, trade secrets,
software piracy, and patents held by individuals, corporations,
or other entities is strictly prohibited. Also, engaging in activity
that violates privacy, publicity, or other personal rights of
others. Prairie 21 is required by law to remove or block access
to customer content upon receipt of a proper notice of copyright
infringement. It is also Prairie 21's policy to terminate the
privileges of customers who commit repeat violations of copyright
laws.
- Obscene or Lewd Material - Prairie 21 expressly forbids
anyone from using Prairie 21 servers for the propagation, distribution,
housing, processing, storing, or otherwise handling in any way
lewd, obscene, or pornographic material, or any other material
which we deem to be objectionable, including, but not limited
to, pornography, hate propaganda, abusive or threatening content
and any and all materials of an adult nature. The designation
of any materials as such described above is left entirely to the
discretion of Prairie 21 management.
- Electronic Forgery - The act or attempt to forge any
digital transmission in order to deceive others is strictly prohibited.
This includes the altering in whole or in part of any of the following:
message headers, IP addresses, network packets, or digital signatures.
We will assist law enforcement in the capture and prosecution
of anyone attempting to defraud others using our services.
- Commercial advertisements with E-Mail - Unsolicited
commercial advertisements are not allowed in e-mail, and will
likely result in account suspension or cancellation. Commercial
advertisements are unwelcome in most Usenet discussion groups
and on most e-mail mailing lists. Inappropriate posting may result
in account suspension or cancellation. See the newsgroup or mailing
list's charter for whether advertising is allowed or not. "Spamming,"
or sending a message to many different off-topic newsgroups, is
particularly unethical and will be treated as such. Sending a
message, especially an advertisement, to more than five or six
recipients, is by itself spamming unless the individuals have
specifically requested to be added to a mailing list on that topic.
E-mail is a person-to-person medium, not a broadcast medium.
- Viruses and Trojan Horses - Prairie 21 expressly forbids
anyone from using Prairie 21 servers for the propagation, distribution,

of others to effectively use the network or any connected network,
system, service, or equipment.

transmitting, or otherwise making available any software, program,
product, or service that is designed to violate this AUP, which
includes the facilitation of the means to spam, initiation of
pinging, flooding, mail-bombing, denial of service attacks, and
piracy of software.
- Unlawful Acts - Prairie 21 Incorporated is a legal
entity of the State of South Dakota and the United States. Use
of any our equipment may not violate any Federal, State, or Local
